Roses as Symbols

 From ancient times roses have been used as symbols for love and beauty. Roses were holy for goddesses in history, and also used as a symbol for the Virgin Mary. The word rose is so significant that in some languages the word pink or the word red means rose, like in the

languages, hebrew, Polish and Greek.

The rose is also the national flower of England, for example the

 

 symbol of the national rugby team of England is a rose. In Portland, Oregon, there is an annual festival which is dedicated to roses,

 

Portland is also called the City of Roses.

Socialism or social democracy also use roses, usually held in a hand, as their symbol. this symbol is used in labour parties in England, Ireland, Spain, Denmark, France and many other socialist parties over Europe. 

Roses come in many varieties and colours and have vast uses  each one with its different symbolic meaning, here is a list of some of them.
